Washington State History
7th - 12th Grade
Course Description:
This course is a survey of the history of chiefly Washington, but also including Oregon and Idaho. We will examine the geography, the northwest's first residents, the explorers and fur traders, the missionaries, the westward movement, working the land and building towns, how the world wars and Great Depression affected the northwest, and lastly, study civil government. We also will participate in two field trips, one to the Washington History Museum and the other to the Capitol.
Course Format:
The format for this course will be a combination of lectures, class discussions, small group debates, quizzing and student activities and presentations. The students will be expected to complete about four hours a week of homework, including studying for tests, reading, completing review questions, making timelines, doing research, completing maps relating to the chapter we were studying and various other learning activities.

Richard M.Hannula, Our Northwest Heritage, 2003. I will order the text for you. Cost is $25 payable the first day of class.
